Nazi “Traitors” and Deserters Finally Get Justice

Imagine that you are a young man in your late teens. Now imagine that a vile dictator rises in your country and calls you to duty. Imagine that this mans evil interpretation of duty is the mass slaughter of innocent women and children. What do you do? Do you follow orders and takue up such a horrible calling? Do you fight the system and refuse to commit such atrocities?

I believe many people today would easily see the right action here, however during the war, things were not so clear cut. A large number of people did see the correct way and stood on their beliefs. In return for such defiance in the face of the Dictator, they were punished severely. Many German citizens were imprisoned and executed for treason for not following orders. Some were spared to live out the war in prison. When these people were freed after the war they were still labeled as prisoners and traitors to the country. They found it hard to get jobs or live normal lives due to the harmful label applied to them by the Reich.

It would seem obvious that after the war these people should have been absolved of the crime of treason against Hitler. It did not happen then. The few that lived did not see justice for taking the higher ground. Seventy years have passed and though most never had a chance to see justice for themselves, the German governement has finally taken action.

The German Parliament voted on a law to lift Nazi convictions on former “traitors”. The bill recieved much support and passed in the lower house. The action comes a mere week after the 70th anniversary of the Invasion of Poland, marking the official beginning of World War 2.

Troy, Michigan Man may be Deported for War Crimes

John Kalymon, an elderly man living in Troy, Michigan, may face deportation by the federal government over his alleged involvement in killing Jews in his native land.

Kalymon is believed to have been an auxilary policeman in the Ukraine.

He could face deportation to Poland to face charges on war crimes. He is believed to be responsible for shooting Jews in his official capacity as a policeman. His lawyers state that his role was to keep looters from stealing coal. Kalymon claime that he did not shoot anyone during the war.

70 Years Later

This months marks 70 years since Hitler invaded Poland and sparked World War II. On September 1st, 1939 Nazi German Troops entered Poland and began a massive invasion of its neighbor. This prompted several other European countries to declare war on the German state. The US would not join the fight until after it was attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor.

The German invasion also spurred the Soviet Union into invading Poland as well, Resulting in a doubly occupied Poland. Though the date may have gone relatively unnoticed in the US, Official Ceremonies marking the date have begun in Poland. Six million Polish citizens, many Jewish, lost their lives due to the conflict.

While it may still take alot of effort for some people to forgive and forget the enemies faced in the conflict, the continent as a whole seems to have largely forgiven, though it will be a very long time before all is forgotten.

Tarantino-Pitt Film off to a “Glorious” Start

Quinton Tarantino’s most recent film, Inglorious Basterds, Starring Brad Pitt is doing quite well in the box office. In it’s first ten days in theaters the film has made $73.8 million dollars.

The plot of the film involves a select group of soldiers who hide among the German population and bring terror into the hearts of German soliders through their horror inspiring methods.

The success of this movie shows that there is still a great interest in the Great War and that money can still be made using the War as a backdrop for film.

Demjanjuk charged in Germany over WWII killings

MUNICH – German prosecutors formally charged John Demjanjuk on Monday with 27,900 counts of being an accessory to murder at a Nazi death camp during World War II.

The charges against the 89-year-old retired auto worker, who was deported from the U.S. in May, were filed at a Munich state court, prosecutors in the city said in a brief statement. There was no immediate word on when a trial might start.

Polish Town Devastated by Nazis to Decide Fate of Hitler’s Tree

WARSAW, Poland — The towering tree is believed to have been Adolf Hitler’s gift to the occupied town of Jaslo — planted to the sound of a Nazi band during World War II.

Town authorities now want it cut down and burned to make way for a new roundabout. But some residents have become attached to the 40-foot oak and are lobbying to save it.

Iranian President’s Holocaust Denial Gets Challanged

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is one of those people who can’t seem to believe that the Holocaust happened. He is a staunch denier of the events that occurred at Auschwitz and other similar concentration camps in Germany. He believes that the whole thing is some sort of twisted conspiracy by Jewish Leadership in Israel to gain support for the Israeli State.

Recent opposition to his views has arisen from one of his rivals, cleric Mahdi Karroubi. Karroubi is running against the President in the upcoming Iranian Presidential Election. Karroubi believes that Ahmadinejad’s disbelief in the issue farther advances the Israeli cause. Though many Israeli’s might dispute that claim.

Whichever the case may be, Ahmadinejad’s denial’s stand to hurt Iran’s stance in the modern world. There are very few who would not stand behind Israel and Jewish people in general in support of the truth behind the reality of the Holocaust.

CLEVELAND – Alleged Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk lost his bid Thursday to get the U.S. Supreme Court to stop his deportation to Germany, where an arrest warrant accuses him of 29,000 counts of accessory to murder during World War II. The legal case spans more than three decades.

Justice John Paul Stevens denied, without comment, Demjanjuk’s plea to step into his case. The 89-year-old retired autoworker lives in suburban Cleveland, and he, his family and his lawyers say he’s in poor health and too frail to be sent overseas.
