it must never happen again
Every so often, I find myself reading about the crimes by the Nazis. I always remember what I told my father one night when he entered my bedroom and found me in tears reading The Commandant of Auschwitz. He was furious that I would be reading that before sleeping. I told him I wanted to feel the fear these people had felt. I didn’t know it then, but this was the way that I would show my respect to all that perished. This is one time where a book could not make my spirit soar, it made me feel disgusted about the human race.
